Lynn and I were spending a lazy, somewhat aimless Saturday going along the North Shore of Long Island when we spied out of the corner of our eye C'est Cheese in the middle of Port Jefferson Village. C'est Cheese, is a fairly new (about two years old) culinary outpost featuring a boutique selection of wine, beer and of course cheese.
Lynn and I love great cheese of course, but unfortunately there are too few places to get really high end cheese in our neck of the woods in Brookhaven. We did have some luck with the Village Cheese Shop in Mattituck, but that place is a 40 minute drive for us and as a result we don't get there as much as we would like. The result of this is that we too often have to settle for deli style cheese; good, but definitely nothing special.
C'est Cheese might be a kind of game changer with regard to our access to artisinal cheese. CC features a number of cheese offerings on their menu which can be bought individually or in "flights" that are organized by type (Cheddar, Gouda, etc) or are curated to complement wine or beer offerings on the menu.
The cheeses, as exquisite as they are can be on the pricey side. Nonetheless, the eatery has a great and varied selection of sandwiches and sandwiches that are modestly priced and showcase some of CC's offerings. There is a nicely curated selection of beer and Lynn and I had a great house white (I failed to write the name of it down, however).
Lynn and I aren't cheese experts but we do like learning about it and developing our palette. We look forward to experiencing more great stuff from this charming Port Jefferson fromagerie...
