Lynn and I have worked hard to deal with the brutal winter that has been non stop for almost the entirety of this still new year. This weekend we finally had a preview of spring and maybe even Summer with the opening of
Croteaux' tasting room. We completely associate Croteaux with Summer and early Fall as it is probably our favorite place on Long Island during that short but sweet period of time on Long Island. Lynn, however, got an email about the vineyard opening this past weekend and we decided to stretch a point and re-aquaint ourselves with the place at a much earlier point than usual.
Lynn and I wondered if the place would feel the same with snow on the ground and a chill in the air. It definitely felt different with the outdoor courtyard blanketed with snow. However, the indoor tasting room was cozy and sunny with the staff pretty much intact. It felt great to be recognized by the owners and staff and wonderful to taste the crisp rose' yet again (our favorite being the Sauvage) . We ordered a basket of french olives, herbed cream cheese and a particularly savory marinated artichoke dip to enjoy with toasted baguette slices. Not even the posers nor the helicopter parents we shared the tasting room with could ruin this sweet preview of spring....
